My daughter used to fight me about practicing every day. Since starting with Courtney, she sits down at the piano on her own. I never thought I'd see that.

The practice app is genius. My son treats it like a video game — tracking his streak, earning gems, actually excited about his assignments. It changed everything.

Courtney Reed

“My goal isn't just to teach piano — it's to build musicians who actually love to play.”

Courtney Reed has been teaching piano since 2009 — over 16 years of private instruction with students at every level, from first-time beginners to advanced classical and worship musicians. She currently works with 60+ active students out of her dedicated home studio in Sarasota, FL.

Her teaching approach goes beyond notes on a page. Courtney builds structured lesson plans around each student's goals, adapts her methods to each learner's pace, and uses twice-yearly recitals to give students real performance experience and a reason to keep growing between lessons.

From 2017 to 2023, Courtney served as an approved festival judge with the National Federation of Music Clubs, evaluating young pianists at the regional level. Outside the studio, she is an experienced worship musician and leader, currently playing keys and singing on the worship team at Legacy Church in Lakewood Ranch, FL.

Lively Keys is a private studio located off DeSoto Road in Sarasota, near Tabernacle Church and Jessica's Organic Farm. Lessons start at $175 per month. Every family's schedule and goals are a little different, so Courtney will walk you through the options that fit best when you reach out. Two things stand out. First, Courtney Reed brings over 16 years of teaching experience and currently works with 60+ active students — a studio size that reflects long-term trust from Sarasota families. Second, every Lively Keys student gets access to a custom-built, gamified practice app exclusive to this studio. It uses character companions, daily missions, gem rewards, and streak tracking to make home practice something kids actually look forward to. No other piano teacher in the Sarasota area offers a custom practice platform alongside private instruction.

Yes — students need access to a piano or full-size keyboard at home to practice between weekly lessons. A 61-key or 88-key weighted keyboard is plenty for beginners and is a much more affordable option than an acoustic piano. If you're not sure what to buy, Courtney is happy to make age-appropriate recommendations before your first lesson. The Lively Keys practice app makes it easy for kids to stay consistent at home — they log sessions, earn gems, and complete missions right from their device.

The Lively Keys practice app is a gamified practice platform built exclusively for students of this studio. After each lesson, students use the app to log daily practice, earn gems, unlock companion characters, complete missions, and build streaks — so practicing feels more like a game than a chore. The app has two modes: Fun Mode for younger students (ages 5–10) and Focus Mode for older students (ages 11–17). It's available on web, iOS, and Android, and access is included with enrollment at no extra cost. Disclosure: the app was designed and developed by the studio to support its own students.
