Ages 5–10

Piano lessons that meet kids where they are.

Young beginners need more than notes on a page. Lively Keys uses a play-based approach that builds real piano skills through engaging lessons, character companions in the practice app, and seasonal recitals that give kids a reason to keep growing. Starting at $175/month.

What piano lessons look like for a young beginner

A typical first lesson at Lively Keys starts with the basics: sitting position, hand shape, and finding the groups of two and three black keys. Courtney introduces note names through games and patterns rather than worksheets, and most five-year-olds play a simple melody by the end of their first session.

Over the first few months, students learn to read notes on the staff, count basic rhythms, and play with both hands. Courtney uses the Faber Piano Adventures method books as a foundation but supplements with songs the child actually wants to learn — movie themes, popular songs, or pieces they have heard older students perform at recitals.

The practice app becomes part of the routine immediately. After the first lesson, students log in, choose their character companion, and start earning gems for every minute they practice. Parents consistently say the app is the reason their child practices without being asked — the streak counter and daily missions create just enough structure to build a habit.

By the end of the first year, most students can read music in both clef positions, play hands-together pieces, and perform confidently at one or two seasonal recitals. The combination of personalized lessons, a proven method book sequence, and daily app engagement creates momentum that carries students forward year after year.
